August 4, 2026
Glenn Gessay passed away at the age of 77 after a lengthy battle with gastric cancer.
Glenn was born in Boston and his family moved to San Diego when he was four years old. He attended La Jolla High School where, among other activities, he excelled at football as a quarterback, defensive back, and punter. He was a linebacker and punter in the San Diego Breitbard High School All Star football game in 1967.
Glenn graduated from Harvard in 1971 and subsequently obtained the degree of MBA in Finance from San Diego State University.
In 1977, he joined Via Computer Inc., which had created the most widely used financial modeling system in the world during the days of computer time-sharing, before the existence of personal computers and popular spreadsheet programs. Glenn developed and documented several industry-specific strategic financial modeling applications, as well as cross-industry applications while working at Via Computer. After the demise of time-sharing and the advent of personal computers, he founded Advanced Micro Applications Inc. and joined in partnership with Real Projections Inc. to pursue the nation-wide marketing of one of his previous industry applications for financial analysis and forecasting of real estate development projects—home building, land development, apartments, commercial/industrial, and hotels. Glenn spent over thirty years in this partnership, enhancing and supporting this suite of software products (PIE, an acronym for Property Investment Evaluation) until his retirement at the end of 2023.
Glenn is survived by his wife Elizabeth Gessay, his son Ryan Gessay (Jenna Gessay and grandsons Graham and Weston), his daughter Brooke McNamara (Rob McNamara and grandsons Lundin and Orion), his brother Greg Gessay, his step-daughter Kristie Waggener, and his step-son Ryan Waggener.
