We are sad to announce that on June 22, 2021, at the age of 71, Jonathan Sussman (San Diego, California) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

I was not particularly close to Mr. Sussman but had the pleasure of being able to speak with him and spend time with him in his later life. The intellect that Jonathan had was unparalleled and rare amongst us. The way that he thought about life was incredibly fascinating. He was witty, funny, and always kind to me. I enjoyed playing chess with him and talking with him. Jonathan, I pray that you are free from pain and are resting in peace. You were truly a delightful human being to know. -- Anonymous

I was not a close friend growing up but we both attended Horace Mann and Crawford High. We were friendly. We all know the brilliant mind of Jonathan and I would like to share a classroom moment. In the 8th or 9th grade, can't remember which., our science teacher put a scientific theory on the chalk board. Jonathan raised his hand and spoke. He went to the chalk board and proved the theory wrong. The whole classroom, especially our science teacher, was blown away. May he rest in peace. -- Earl Altshuler
